Editorial Independence Policy

The editorial team of Filter retains full authority over editorial decisions in pursuing the mission of The Influence Foundation.

The Influence Foundation will accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the support of its activities, but Filter’s news judgments will be made independently. Editorial decisions will be inspired by the journalistic values of relevance, fairness, thoroughness and accuracy.

The sole way in which The Influence Foundation’s sources of revenue may affect Filter’s editorial decisions is when The Influence Foundation accepts restricted grants to support reporting on specific areas of coverage. In such cases, any viewpoints expressed in the course of that coverage will remain the sole decision of Filter’s editorial team. All restricted grants are publicly described on our list of funders, and articles funded by restricted grants will be publicly identified as such.

The Influence Foundation will make public all donors who give a total of $500 or more in any year, except in the case of private individuals who insist on anonymity, as described in The Influence Foundation’s Donor Transparency Policy. Acceptance of financial support does not imply any endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
